Synopsis:
Self-made millionaire Larry Patterson (Warren Clarke) is successful, powerful and charismatic. He owns a multi-million pound video business and has the best dogs in the greyhound racing world. Jim Morley (Jim Broadbent) has just got out of prison for dodging his tube fare. He's one of life's losers who's always 'just one plan' away from making his fortune. His only link to the lucrative world of greyhound racing is a three-legged dog called Highland Fling. They're as far removed on the financial scale as it's possible to be - but they have one thing in common. They both love the same woman. It should be a one dog race. Larry Patterson is used to getting his own way.
As far as he's concerned everyone has their price and problems are solved with a cheque book. His wife Lauren (Alison Steadman) thinks she may be the exception to the rule - especially when she meets romantic Jim Morley who is dying to whisk her away to idyllic poverty. Hovering on the sidelines being pulled both ways is little Jim (Harry Enfield) who is in a no win situation. Does he root for his old man Jim Morley or his boss Larry Patterson? One thing is sure, whatever advice little Jim or her mum Jean (Sheila Hancock) gives to Lauren, she'll give everyone a run for their money before making her choice.
