Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Review
In ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the rest of the students and faculty are taken hostage in Hogwarts by Voldemort’s dark wizards and minions, ready to face off for the ultimate battle. This is the younger generation’s version of when Luke Skywalker (Harry) goes mano a mano with Darth Vader (Voldemort). Spells fly in the air, creatures come out of the woods, and battle lines are drawn. ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ is actually an unexpected action thriller.
War and death star in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’, the darkest of all the films within the franchise. We get to see the maturity in Daniel Radcliffe’s acting. He started Harry at 11 and now he’s 21, a young man playing a 17-year-old. You can say that the film is a metaphor for the pain of growing up and the relief that accompanies it. An end and beginning. Kudos to everyone in the film – Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson – for maturing with him and the material.
For 11 years Harry Potter lived in a cupboard under the stairs and acted like a domestic helper for the Dursleys who happen to be his closest of kin. Harry has had many adventures but the only adventure he has not exactly experienced – to be a normal wizard that has a family and calls him their own – finally comes true in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’. Of course, it took Harry Potter more than a decade to get to his version of ‘normal’, but he is duly rewarded for his efforts.
‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ is the swan song of the Harry Potter franchise, the last installment of the phenomenal series of books and films that starred a boy wizard. If you look closely, Harry Potter’s life is a fairy tale in itself with tinges of melodrama and plot twists that have been both satisfying and frustrating for fans and non-fans alike. But the rollercoaster that is Harry Potter is worth the thrilling ride.
