Destroy Before Viewing - Incendiary review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
27/03/2009

This is Sharon Maguire’s first film since Bridget Jones Diary. While Incendiary is a step up in the drama stakes, it is a horrible mess. The scenario of London bombings and their impact on the victims, media and the wider general public is very current and enticing. The execution is frankly dire. The script hampered by flashbacks, lacks any suspense or thrills and features wooden characters and dialogue. McGregor is beginning to fill his CV with some worryingly bad films and this is the pick of the bunch to date. His likeable happy-go-lucky playboy journalist soon falls for the charms of a poor girl next door. Ewan's character fails to investigate or add anything to the plot. Whereas Williams is hopelessly cast as a cockney mother, while she can act she is no North London girl. Ultimately you walk away from Incendiary feeling that this is little more than an example of an exploitation film. Taking modern events, tinting these with a touch of World War II sentimentality and trying to pull on the heart strings. On this form I hope Sharon Maguire's next film is a long way off.

So much not right - Incendiary review by TF

Spoiler Alert
16/05/2015

The earlier review was accurate. I wondered why the bomb squad scene was made the way it was, poorly lit, and mumbled. It was a foretaste of what was to come. Unlikely scenes and a lack of dramatic tension. Sadly there is so much that is not right with this film.
