Explosive action thriller
- District 13 review by CP Customer
Set in Paris in the very near future, where an area of the city has been walled off for the safety of the rest of Paris' citizens. The area, known as District 13, has been devastated by crime and looks like a war zone. The film starts with a breathtaking free running sequence, involving the good guy, Leito, and with a raid carried out by an undercover cop. These 2 team up to rescue Leito's kidnapped sister and to recover a nuclear missile that was stolen by a gang warlord. It is an excellent film with some clear social issues, including poverty, who crime is dealt with and what should happen to dodgy city councillors. Make sure you watch it with the subtitles as the dubbing is absolutely dire!

Superbly crafted pop thriller. Great for a Friday night.

This is a superb film!
Pacy, fun, bright and with an intelligent script to match.
We watched this because we had seen the latest offering by director Pierre Morel, with Luc Besson's script (Taken - 2008) and it was mind-blowingly good.
I don't tend to use superlatives when reviewing films and this is the first I have given a 5* for Cinema Paradiso.
Watch this if it's the only French movie you see.

Great stunts

Forgettable plot, so just sit back and let the kinetic action wash over you. Great parkour chases filmed with verve and a snip at 90 minutes. Great bunch of DVD Extras too.

Entertaining Action Thriller
- District 13 review by GI
A B movie style action thriller set in a dystopian near future where rising crime has resulted in the walling up of the worst districts of Paris. In one a crime lord rules with ruthlessness but a young man, Leïto (David Belle) is trying to protect his apartment block from the criminals. As a result he gets framed, sent to prison and his sister is made the sex slave of the bad guy. When a nuclear bomb is stolen and set to detonate in the district the authorities send in a tough cop, Damien (Cyril Raffaelli) and Leïto to find and defuse it but its all a double cross. You can actually forget the plot because its irrelevant as this is all about gutsy fights and plenty of 'parkour' chase scenes through the derelict buildings. It's an entertaining slice of hokum all done with panache and neatly short enough to enjoy and move on.
