"This tape will self-destruct in five seconds."
- Mission Impossible review by CP Customer
Action packed and with a complex plot, Mission Impossible is a slick, glossy spy thriller with good performances from Tom Cruise and Emmanuelle Béart. Watch out for the large shattering fish tank in Prague.

Good but not the best
- Mission Impossible review by JD
Having seen the sequels has spoilt me. This is a good film with tons of plot and great action. Cruise is an unsurpassed action hero, but some of the other actors are a little passed their best before date. The helicopter dodging trains in a tunnel is a little unbelievable. The best scene is breaking into the CIA vault. The moment where his sweat runs onto the glasses, the drop sensitive floor inches below, I have seen many times it is a spy drama classic. Nevertheless I could hardly stay still on the sofa. If you haven't seen it recently definitely worth a repeat.

Totally implausible. Amazing how the technology always works. No fading signals, no fuse blowing , no wrong switches thrown and as for the helicopter in the tunnel episode. Total nonsense! Enjoyed it all immensely!

Mission: Still Possible — Clever, Stylish, and Still a Blast
- Mission Impossible review by griggs
Watching Mission: Impossible again ahead of the final film coming out, and honestly, it holds up surprisingly well for something nearly 30 years old—it still feels sharp. Some of the tech and special effects are laughably dated, and the Eurotunnel finale is a bit silly, full of factual and technical nonsense. But the film’s still a blast. The wire drop scene is iconic—surely one of the most famous in cinema. It’s not perfect, but it’s clever, stylish, and still loads of fun.

Great Action Spy Film
- Mission Impossible review by GI
Whilst this spy thriller stretches implausibility to the extreme limits it is very entertaining. Based on the popular 60s TV series it is heavily influenced by the early Bond films and filled a gap that wasn't satisfyingly filled until The Bourne Identity (2002) and when the Bond franchise rebooted in 2006 with Casino Royale. The only character to cross over from the TV series to this film is Jim Phelps, here played by Jon Voight, who leads a covert intelligence team of young agents from a top secret branch of the CIA. One of his team is Ethan (Tom Cruise) who ends up being the only survivor when a mission in Prague goes wrong. Suspected of being a traitor Ethan has to go on the run and come up with a plan to prove his innocence. The scene is then set for great set piece action including a break in at CIA HQ, some very clever plot twists (some of which seriously upset fans of the TV series) and a 007 style ending. Cruise proves his action hero credentials here in a film that is aimed at a wide audience although there is some brutality. The gritty realism will come later in what has now emerged as a highly popular franchise. Great support cast includes Ving Rhames, Jean Reno, Kristin Scott Thomas and an uncredited Emilio Estevez. If you've seen all the series then this, the first, still stands up well and slightly apart from the rest of the films.
