Afghanistan, 2014. As the withdrawal of troops approaches. Captain Antares Bonassieu (Jérémie Renier) and his squad have been assigned a surveillance mission in a remote valley of Wakhan, on the border of Pakistan. Despite Antares and his men's determination, control of the secluded valley begins to fall out of their hands - especially when, during the course of one dark night, soldiers begin to disappear in the valley, calling into question the true nature of this mysterious enemy.
Niether One thing or another!
- Neither Heaven Nor Earth review by nm
Disappointed in this film. It started off well and gave a glimpse of the stark harshness of the landscape and the lack of any comfort. It descended into a long drawn out saga and the most interesting thing in it were the lambs. I don't know if what genre it would fall into as it is one of those films that is all about nothing really. At the end I thought Why on earth did I watch this".. guess I was hoping for something to happen - it doesn't!!

Lifeless war film
- Neither Heaven Nor Earth review by Alphaville
In this well-intentioned French Afghan War (2014) film we follow a squad of troops as they go about their mission. Some critics found it haunting, but most viewers will find it hard to care. Its score-free, documentary-style approach renders it deliberately undramatic and lifeless. Unless you have utmost patience, it will lose you long before a plot sets in.
