Fantastic - Sunshine review by Rob S

Spoiler Alert
07/01/2008

I had no real expectation of this film and had read some negative reviews prior to watching, but I must say that this was really superb. Yes the characters could have been developed more, but that would have lead to a 2-3 hrs saga, so to keep the running time acceptable I guess they could not develop the 8 or so main characters more than a little. The plot is as outlined in the review above and I would say that this is a little like Alien but not as drawn out for the first hour. The acting, script and the effects really are top notch and the extras on the disc, especially the commentary by Dr Brian Cox, are very interesting.

If you like your Sci-fi quite 'real' then this is for you. It has quite a bit of tension towards the end I actually had to get my breath back at the end...very intense.

Highly recommended.

We loved this film although we were not sure what direction it was going in at one point, it did have a lot of suspense and atmosphere!

Modern 2001 - Sunshine review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
24/10/2007

Whilst not being a classic of the likes of 2001, this is a modern sci-fi with a touch of horror. The film is about a team sent to the dying sun in a specially designed craft to set off a nuclear explosion with the intention of reviving it. If you like sci-fi there is lots to enjoy, but the pace in the first half of the film is slow. Things 'hot up a bit' when the ship meets up with the previous one that was lost on a similar mission and it becomes clear that someone, or something, is trying to sabotage their mission.
