Saw (2004)
Awakening from a drugged stupor, Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) finds himself chained to a pipe in a dingy bathroom, with another man (Leigh Whannell) in the same situation across the room . The men are the latest victims of the Jigsaw Killer, a maniac who uses elaborate traps to test his victims' dedication to life. Given six hours, a hacksaw, and a bullet, Dr. Gordon tries to figure out a way to freedom, hoping his kidnapped family (including Monica Potter) can survive the nightmare as well. Hot on the Jigsaw's trail is Detective David Tapp (Danny Glover), an equally as insane cop who was once the victim of the Jigsaw's evil scheme.

One of the best horror films ever made!
While the storyline revolves around a similar theme to the 2001 movie 'Seven', (a serial killer tries to make the profane see the light by torturing them mentally and physically), Saw is very different in its execution and story telling style, and with a thoroughly engaging storyline it keeps you hooked right until the end credits roll. Due to a tight schedule and an even tighter budget director James Wan uses some absolutely inspired techniques to provide real tension and scares. In one particular scene a character is trying to walk around his blacked out apartment with only the flash in his camera for brief bursts of light, the tension in this scene alone is awesome. One of the best things about Saw is that throughout the film you'll think you've got everything figured out, however, the story has so many clever twists and turns along the way you will repeatedly be proved wrong… and the final ten minutes of this film is nothing short of a pure adrenalin rollercoaster. Saw is without doubt one of the best horror films ever made and a must see movie!
