The Mother (2003)
May (Anne Reid) and Toots (Peter Vaughan), a couple in their sixties, are visiting their grown-up children in London when Toots suffers a fatal heart attack.Mays son Bobby drives his mother back home to the north, but May decides she cant stay alone and returns to London to live with Bobby, much to the annoyance of daughter-in-law Helen.
May fears that she has become another invisible old woman whose life is more or less over.Until, that is, she falls for Darren, a man half her age, who is renovating her sons house and sleeping with her daughter...
BAFTA nominated Anne Reid, who turned down a role in 'Calendar Girls' to appear in this film, garnered critical acclaim for her role as the sexually awakened May. With a multi-faceted career, spanning prime time television shows such as 'Coronation Street' and 'Dinnerladies',theatrical credits which include 'Noises Off', 'Billy Liar' and 'Wild Oats' and films 'Liam', 'Love And Death On Long Island' and the voice of Wendoline in Aardman Animations Oscar-winning Wallace and Gromit, Anne Reids light is shining brightly.
Best known for his recent role in 'Sylvia' as well as 'Road To Perdition', 'Moll Flanders', 'Elizabeth' and 'Love And Rage', Daniel Craig puts in a searing performance as the compromised Darren who shows May that life can really begin in your sixties!

Family problems
Not easy to watch, but an excellent cast and good script makes it worth. Once again it confirms there was a life before 007 for Daniel Craig who is involved with a dysfunctional family. He has an affair with mother AND daughter. The moral is live your life now.
