Rent Plenty (1985)

Meryl Streep gives the performance of her career as a young and idealistic Englishwoman whose experiences in World War II cast an indelible shadow on her return to post-war Britain. For Susan Traherne, nothing can match the danger and excitement of her wartime work as a courier for the French Resistance; nor can any man match the British Agent with whom she had a passionate liaison. After the war, as others are eager to settle back to a steady life, Susan becomes restless and disillusioned; determined to change the world but unable to make a mark.
