Martin, a young American grad student (Elijah Wood) visiting Oxford, is drawn into a complex murder mystery when his landlady is brutally slain in acclaimed director Alex de la Iglesia's tense and stylish thriller. The gifted student joins forces with the brilliant Professor Arthur Seldom (John Hurt) to solve a series of murders seemingly linked by a series of codes and symbols. As they try and crack the code and find a dangerous killer, an elaborate puzzle begins to unravel in which every action has an effect beyond anything that Martin could have imagined.

This was apparently based on a book and I think it should have stayed that way. With the exception of Elijah Wood and John Hurt, this was liking watching a very bad AmDram production. The acting was hammed up beyond belief and what was the dubbed over Russian lunatic all about?! It was watchable, in that we watched it to the end, but definitely not memorable (not for the right reasons!).

Watch this film if you want to see really good actors flounder in a sea of over exressed ideas (it makes the explainations in numbers look noble prize worthy) and REALLY bad dialogue.
Features include hobbit sex, a script written by a well meaning lecturer with no idea of dialogue and where was that accent meant to be from?
