- April 26th, 1945. The Russian Army has encircled Berlin and now draws the noose tight, marching towards the Reichstag and destroying the German's last lines of defence, tank by tank, man by man as the city falls into Soviet hands. It is also on this day that a woman begins a most extraordinary fight for survival against the city's new occupiers that reveals the shocking realities faced by civilians during the explosive last days of war.

Hard to watch in places but should be seen - The Downfall of Berlin: Anonyma review by CC
Having read the book it was difficult to imagine how this could be filmed whilst preserving both the horror and the black humour of this true story. Although having to leave out quite a bit of the history it managed to keep the essentials: to tell the shocking experiences of these women during the fall of Berlin to the Red Army but to end on an uplifting note.
