New York is caught in the grip of a sadistic serial killer who is preying on the patrons of the city's underground bars. Captain Edelson (Paul Sorvino) tasks young rookie Steve Burns (Al Pacino) with infiltrating the S&M subculture to try and lure the killer out of the shadows - but as he immerses himself deeper and deeper into the underworld, Steve risks losing his own identity in the process.
Amazing this film got made.

It's not an easy watch and avoid it if you have issues with the subject of Leather Bars and S&M Clubs. However if you're open minded it is a snapshot into a pre AIDS epidemic world that no longer exists. A pretty important film in my opinion and Friedkin is a really important director. If you rent the Blu-ray version you get a excellent commentary track by the director and Mark Kermode which explains the history, controversy and missing 40 minutes of the film.
