Synopsis:
It is 1941 and the terrors of war-torn Europe seem a long way away for the small expatriate community living in Singapore. Dosed on real life experiences this is the powerful story of women whose lives are changed forever. It is 1942 and the women are finding camp life worse than they could have imagined. Morion Jefferson, the spokeswoman is interrogated by the secret police leaving her mentally drained. Work on the sick bay continues and malaria is rife.

Disc 1:
This disc includes the following:
Episode 1 - 1941: The city of Singapore has been bombed by the Japanese and the hospital is overflowing with casualties. There is a massive evacuation by ship to Australia.
Episode 2 - 1941: The survivors of the ship are separated and token prisoner. The women meet ferocious Captain Yamauchi who lays down the appalling prison camp ground rules.
Episode 3 - 1942: The privileged lives of a small group of expatriate men and women are about to be shattered. Colonel Jefferson receives some devastating news that will lead to an ongoing nightmare for the Singapore inhabitants.

This disc includes the following:
Episode 4 - 1942: Sylvio Ashburton, for punishment, is used as an example to teach the others how to bow. Sister Ulrica, the Dutch leader meets Marion Jefferson, the English spokesperson.
Episode 5 - 1942: Marion tries to keep morale going with sing-songs but gets little support. Dejected, she then proposes that the women build a sickbay out of a burnt-out hut, which gives them a sense of purpose.

Episode 6 - 1942: There are suspicions that Blanche may be fraternising with the enemy. Quinine becomes litre most sought after medicine. Rose and Blanche invoke the wrath of the Commandant.
Episode 7 - 1942: The women are feeling very unfeminine, with rough skin, filthy clothing and low; morale. They organise games and parties to keep them occupied - gossip spreads about-a close friendship.
Episode 8 - 1942: Marion makes Judith a promise regarding Debbie's future and Debbie tells Blanche her real family name. An escape committee idea by Blanche causes heated discussion.

This disc includes the following episodes:
Episode 9 - 1942: Blanche and Debbie are tied to poles as punishment and Marion pleads for mercy for them. The Dutch internees offer to help the English with the impossible task the Commandant has set.
Episode 10 - 1942: Christmas is coming and with it arguments about entertainment. The Commandant announces a move to another camp and Doctor Bea worries about an outbreak of Beri-Beri.
