so so bad. what was i thinking - Don't Speak review by JD

Spoiler Alert
27/07/2021

This has a the feeling of an 'alien on earth' type film.

group of people v an unknown entity.

In principle its fine, why not.

But its executed so badly. Its obviously been done on a very small budget but that no excuse for how bad this is. Indeed, after watching darkstar its become apparent to me haivng no budget wont stop a good (ok, carpenter is a bit more than good!) director making a great film.

There are plenty of lingering close ups in perfect light on items out of the costume cupboard re-purposed for monster effects

It also has far to many horrible inconsistences. The creatures senses appear poorly developed, an old woman loads a pistol by forcing bullets into the handle, car issues are scripted and acted out with what is clearly zero mechanical knowledge. (thinking about it i dont think the bullets were even for that particular weapon!)

There is lots of running around and yelling, one of the cast just wimpers all the time.

The creatures itself was interesting on the whole. How it hunted, its method of attack (it looked silly but appears to be a case of deliberate injury) its life cycle. But all of this was just teased and just used to move the story on and give reasons for people to scream. Not increase our knowledge and fear of it.

Youd be better off watching Alien or the thing again (even the original thing come to think of it. Thats a much better film than this)

Silly, annoying but watchable creature feature - Don't Speak review by Alphaville

Spoiler Alert
13/08/2021

A family of ordinary Brits, with American accents for foreign sales, are terrorised by silly humanoid monsters that are attracted by sound. Yes, it’s a rip-off of the far superior A Quiet Place. Still, it begins well enough, with people acting unusually normally for a horror film and a welcome absence of annoying American teens (even if the acting is a bit hit-and-miss). Director Scott Jeffrey has an eye for framing and composition that makes for a nicely tense first act.

Unfortunately the film then runs out of ideas and, even with a run time of only 68mins (always a warning sign), becomes repetitive. Some of the characters keep screaming and whining even though the whole premise of the film is that they need to keep quiet. Among a host of other things that don’t make sense is their liking for being covered in blood instead of wiping it off. Overall, a disappointing failure after a promising start, but if you want to be amused and annoyed, it’ll pass an hour and a bit.

High Flyers Films, Awful - Don't Speak review by GBK

Spoiler Alert
11/12/2021

It seems that every movie i watch which is from the High Flyers Productions Is Just Terrible, The storylines have some good potential but they have been done with such a low budget and awful actors that they are just un watchable. Early 70s horror movies were done with better actors and effects than these are and considering the technology available these days just makes me wonder why they bother if they are not going to bother using it or the money to do it because it not only disappoints the audience watching but also just rips them off because they pay to go and see what seems to be a great movie to be faced with this kind of rubbish, I know that in future no matter how good the movie sounds. if it is done by High Flyers then i just simply will not bother as i would rather watch my kettle boil as it will be more exciting.
