Synopsis:
The daily grind of working in a fish factory has got to 30-something Finnie (Mark Stanley). He longs to be that carefree teenager again who spent his nights racing cars through Fraserburgh's neon-soaked streets. When his own teenage car racing son Kid (Anders Hayward) gets girlfriend Kelly (Marli Siu) pregnant, Finnie gains an inescapable reminder of where he thinks his own life went wrong. Unable to articulate his feelings to his wife Katie (Amy Manson), Finnie decides to borrow Kid's car for one last after-dark joyride...
Inspired by Bruce Springsteen's songs about growing up and growing old in the same small-town, Scott Graham's thrilling third feature intimately captures how teenage dreams are hard to leave behind when you've missed your chance to hit the road and run.

Ken Loach meets Fast & Furious - Run review by AER

Spoiler Alert
Updated 04/02/2022

This BBC film drama is set in a dead end town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and revolves around a young father's attempts to face up to his responsibilities. At an all-time low he contemplates running away from his family and hitting the road in his son's souped up hatchback car. He wants to take back the years when he was king of the road racers. Will he runaway or stay? What begins as a terminally bleak, angry story opens out into a story of hope and wisdom. Carried convincingly by a committed cast and some good car scenes, this offers more insight into the thrill of driving fast and the freedom of the road than 10 Vin Diesel films. Short, tough, but worth the ride.

Mundane Kitchen Sink Drama - Run review by GI

Spoiler Alert
19/06/2022

A rather dull kitchen sink drama set in a Scottish fishing town. The story focuses on Finnie (Mark Stanley), a thirtysomething family man married to the plucky Katie (Amy Manson) and with two sons. He's grown disillusioned with his mundane life and after one tense evening he 'borrows' his eldest son's car and goes on a joyride trying to recapture his youth. He even considers running off with his son's girlfriend! The performances are no doubt good but it's a laborious narrative and you never get to care about anyone.
