It is 1969. and Elliot Tiber, a failing interior designer in Greenwich Village, New York, has moved back home to help his parents run their dilapidated motel. The bank is about to foreclose; his father wants to burn the place down, but hasn't paid the insurance; and Elliot is still deciding how to "come out" to his parents. When Elliot hears that a nearby town has withdrawn the permit on a hippie music festival, he calls the organisers, thinking he could drum up some business for the motel. Three weeks later half a million People turn up at his neighbour's farm and Elliot finds himself swept up in a generation-defining experience that would change his life, and American culture, forever.

Far out man

I enjoyed this film immensely. The cast are great and obviously having a wonderful time with a cracking and witty script. Worth it alone for Imelda Staunton's bonkers mother, even the cameos are spot on- from a drugged up Paul Dano to the transvestite Liev Scrieber(director of the equally wonderful 'Everything is Illuminated').It reminded me of the TV version of 'MASH'-funny and human with an unforgettable range of characters.
Encapsulates the era perfectly, and if you are in the mood, take a 'trip' back to the 60's!

Slow, overly long and ultimately disappointing.

Considering the high quality cast this is a really disappointing film. The plotline is fairly good idea though the story often plods along and it feels every second of its 2 hour running time. It's one of those films which is hard to categorise, not quite a comedy, not quite a drama, not much of a story and instantly forgettable.
