Chev Chelios survives a jaw-dropping plunge from a helicopter only to be kidnapped by a triad gang which has plans for his seemingly indestructible heart. Waking up 3 months later he finds his ticker’s been replaced with a mechanical one that needs regular jolts of electricity to keep working. The race is on for Chev to track down his heart before it gets transplanted into a geriatric triad boss. Cue major pain, full-on action... and ill-advised sex in public.

Crank 2 High Voltage is aptly named, as it is a shocking film, one of the worst I’ve seen in recent years. Jason Statham has built up his career, but anymore films like this will devalue his status greatly. The plot is lightweight, existing to provide plenty of violence, car chases and scantily clad females, as it tours around the Chinese, Hispanic and African American gangs of LA. To say Crank 2 is offensive and derogatory towards women is an understatement. Boy racers and suchlike will probably enjoy its high-octane pacing and lack of wardrobe. Badly directed and exceptionally cheap and tacky, this really is a video nasty.

I must admit to laughing when i read a rather serious review of this film by another reviewer. Looks like some people take this film rather seriously when it's just basically a cartoon but without the animation ! Crank 2 kicks off mere seconds after the first film ends and see's chev chelios (statham) kidnapped with his heart stolen and replaced with an artificial one which need a constant electrical boost every few mins from whatever source he can find ! Yes it's every bit as silly as the first film but directors Neveldine and Taylor never let you go bored and with a brisk 90mins it never outstays it's welcome. There seems to be a lot of snobbery about this movie but its just mindless fun that never pretends to be anything else. If you enjoyed the first film then crank 2 is well worth 90 mins of your time.
