Crispin Glover plays an awkward and unsuccessful writer who dates a playwright Stella while sharing a room with an unsuccessful actor Timmy Smith. He steals the poems of Marty a mute friend and after claiming them as his own, he shows them to a literary agent Mathias who is so impressed that he immediately advances the writer hundreds of dollars but there's a problem. Joey now has to learn about liars, losers and the price of success.
