Sunshine Cleaning review by Shatner's Bassoon
An enjoyable low key drama.

If you’re looking for laughs then you’re going to be disappointed, but as a gentle low key character based drama ‘Sunshine Cleaning’ is well above average. If you enjoyed films like ‘Little Miss Sunshine’, Sideways’ and ‘Juno’ then this is well worth a rental.

Far From Spotless

Sunshine Cleaning has a few minor laughs but it doesn't work as a comedy, instead a family drama is more beneficial. This offers a snapshot of life outside the American dream with a single mother trying to raise her kid and pay the bills. The main issue is the lack of depth, the sister is threadbare in detail and interesting participants come and go throughout the story. In the hands of another director, Sunshine Cleaning could have cleaned up.

Family Drama

There are a couple of laughs in this but not enough to classify it as a comedy (although I've seen less amusing comedies!!). The subject of crime scene cleaning is an interesting one and something which I would imagine does pay well. The story revolves around two sisters (Amy Adams and Emily Blunt) who lose their jobs and venture into the CS cleaning to make some quick cash. Initially they have no clue as to what they're doing and incorrectly dispose of soiled mattresses etc. They get better with time and bond well, but then there is an incident which changes everything. It's a quirky little tale of not much substance but if you're after a light hearted family drama with a good performances and not a lot of thought required, then give this a spin.
