This film tries so hard to be in the style of a classic European Thriller, but fails miserably, mainly due to the very strong American references which keep cropping throughout the film! These are presumably there to make this appeal to an American audience as well as a European one and as a result it does neither! With Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones vying with each other too much for attention and Ryan Reynolds making a very short appearance right at the beginning, one wonders if the cast was right for such a film? The first ten minutes starts off quite tight and slick, but the whole things soon starts to unravel and you're left with a very patchy affair that never quite lives up to what it wants to be! Shame because the idea was quite a good one and if this had been made as a European thriller, aimed at a European audience, it could have been quite good, but sadly all the unnecessary and irrelevant American references spoil it completely!
This film was never going to be a classic despite a very good cast. But if, like me you were looking for a film to watch in the evening that is not too taxing on the brain and to be entertained, than this is the one for you. Thought Costner was quite good in his unusual role. So give this film a try you'll either like it or hate it! I liked it.
Lot of well know faces in this, and Kevin is quite good as a heavy for once, or heavyish. Lee Jones is looking very frail, and should retire to that ranch perhaps. The top intelligence officer for US is depicted as a complete idiot.....as they usually are. Mass shootings in the street with thousands of rounds being fired.............a bit non-realistic.....as it usually is. Gone are the strong silent types with heavy conversations in dark places.....the actors..........Kevin can do it, just needs less guns and bangs perhaps..........
