Synopsis:
A young man, Justin Powell (Ben Sullivan), is held up at gunpoint by two ski-masked men and dragged back to a secluded cabin. This isn't a standard kidnapping, as Justin's estranged family is at the cabin waiting for him. Composed of Justin's parents, brothers and former girlfriend Samantha (who has recently given birth to their child), Justin's family is dedicated to freeing him from the brainwashing he's undergone at the hands of a vicious cult. With the help of Jimmy Levine (Stephen Dorff), an ex Marine who deprograms brainwashed cultists, the family does their best to bring Justin back to reality.
Everything goes awry when the cult (a murderous gang of masked men and women known as the Jackals) descends upon the cabin, demanding Justin back. A vicious battle unfolds, testing familial loyalties and unleashing a bloodbath in which there are few survivors.

A well thought-out addition to the home invasion genre - Jackals review by NP

Spoiler Alert
09/07/2021

Another home invasion film probably influenced by ‘The Strangers', and very good it is too. To begin with, the viewer is continually wrong-footed until we’re finally made aware of what is going on. Even then, events conspire to surprise us.

There’s also a reason for the antagonists to be here, which makes them more real and believable, rather than nameless mask-wearers who elaborately taunt and torture people for kicks.

The heroes are a motley bunch. The men spend a lot of time squabbling, and the mother is defined mainly by botox; the daughter meanwhile is wetter than a wet thing. Understandably so, you might argue, given the circumstances.

Good, unexpected ending too, although some will be frustrated by it. My score is 8 out of 10.
