Harrison Lloyd (David Strathairn) is a Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist for Newsweek magazine, regularly sent away on lengthy assignments to cover hazardous war situations. Although celebrated for his daring coverage, Harrison is keen to retire from the frontline in order to spend more time with his wife Sarah (MacDowell, Four Weddings And A Funeral) and their two young children.
Despite Harrison’s reluctance, his editor convinces him to go away to war-torn Yugoslavia for one final assignment in October 1991. Shortly after he leaves, Sarah receives word that Harrison has died following the collapse of a building, not far from the epicentre of the conflict in Vukovar. However, thinking she has caught sight of him on a TV broadcast, Sarah believes her husband is still alive and driven by an intense passion, plunges into a land ravaged by war to risk her own life in a relentless search to find him.
